16 of 58 for 58: Just Do Good Work

I recently perused some old issues of People Magazine left in the break room where I teach. There were some familiar faces gracing its pages. But for the most part, I wasn't familiar with most of the people whose exploits were documented.

So I'm not up on pop culture, I suppose.

I can live without the fame (or infamy) that goes along with such publicity. But it hasn't always been that way.

I've spent lots of time and energy seeking recognition for what I did. It became a never-ending quest, however. Whatever acknowledgement I received wasn't enough.

Most importantly, my needs got in the way of doing good work. And without doing good work, nothing else matters.

Granted, doing good work by itself won't necessarily earn you riches. But it's a great start.

That's why now I focus every day on doing good work. That's all I can do. The rest--whatever it is--will follow.
